Investing in Brazil 2016 - Disenchantment Pragmatism & Hope

After the success of our first Ipsos Flair in Brazil, made possible thanks to the great reception of our clients and the commitment of our teams, we are pleased to present the second edition. The scenario has significantly changed within a year, and some of the expected promises were delayed. The most commonly heard ‘when’ words are: recession, protests and disenchantment.

Nevertheless, Ipsos is not here to whine. On the contrary, it is in turbulent waters like these that
navigation requires more command; because it opens a safe way.

We invite you to discover our perspective and our outlook for Brazil in 2016. Email consulting.bc@ipsos.com

Agribusiness & Food Industry in India - Impact of FDI in Retail

India's retail industry was revolutionised by government reforms last September which allowed foreign firms for the first time to own a controlling stake in retail operations. Previously they had been confined to the wholesale market. The decision was contentious and remains a hotly contested issue today in both political and economic spheres. Foreign investors and pro-reform Indian companies, however, hailed the move as a groundbreaking development that would stimulate foreign investment in the industry and usher in new levels of international expertise. Ipsos Business Consulting’s Research Note discusses the impact of FDI on the retail segment of the agribusiness and food industry in India.

Achieving Successful Distribution in Emerging Markets

Many foreign companies operating in emerging markets lack basic knowledge to enable them to design efficient distribution channels for these very specific markets, which inhibits their commercial potential. Manufacturers are too often uncommitted in the way they approach the matter of distribution, whilst at the same time lacking understanding about how to design and implement effective distribution strategies. Instead they typically base their choice of channels on underlying factors, such as the company’s business strategy or market conditions, with distribution commonly seen as little more than a utilitarian task.

Many companies entering new markets quickly learn that determining the best possible sales channels is a much harder task than first thought. Finding the right distribution partners and managing them successfully is key to delivering successful distribution that drives sales and increases a company’s local success.

This research note from Ipsos Business Consulting includes a general model to help companies to overcome this problem. It draws on the common characteristics of emerging markets to create a “best fit” distribution strategy solution for companies, both new entries and established manufacturers.

“Achieving Successful Distribution in Emerging Markets” should be read in conjunction with the detailed case study “Distribution Channel Strategy Design”.
